Dear Abby - Indecisive Girl

Dear Abby, I’m a girl that likes a lot of things, I’m eclectic and I like different types of music, movies and activities.
All my life I have done a lot of activities, I’ve played guitar and piano, I’ve taken kung fu, ballet, jazz and theatre class. I’ve taken English, Spanish and French class too. Probably there are more things that I have done and I don’t remember now.
So, the problem is that everything that I start I never continue I always stop, at first I love but then I don’t like anymore so I give up.
-          Indecisive Girl

Hey Indecisive Girl, your problem is so popular between the younger, or no, people. To resolve I you have to have focus in life and what you want for you and for your future.
Guess, if you are starting the college in a curse and you have studied a lot to pass… and then you stop to like that. Will be waste of time. Anything in life that you give up is for the people, who are watching that you can’t do. You have to prove, not for them, but for you that you can and you will win.

You have to try to do simple things by yourself first to gain self-reliance, before you should start more difficult things until you can do all things you have to do. Other instructions about Dear Abby composition

Hi, guys!

Hope you all had a good Saturday!

I've just corrected the compositions that have been posted here and they were actually really good! So, all you have to do now is look for it in the draft - Rascunho - correct them and rewrite them on paper.

If you want, you can print them. So, it's "Dear Abby's" responsibility to copy/print the letter.

Example: if Fernanda answered Helder's letter, she is the one that is going to print both Helder's letter and her response letter because she was Dear Abby. SHE WILL NOT COPY/PRINT THE LETTER SHE WROTE TO DEAR ABBY. Another person is going to do that.

This is due next Saturday. This means that by Saturday morning, everybody should have their final version of the letters posted here and the copied/printed version in class, so we can have it exposed on the school walls. Thus, I advise you to post here before Friday so I have time to correct it and you have time to rewrite it.

In case you have problems, let me know beforehand and not in class, ok?

Have a nice Sunday and week!

Regards,

Débora Leite

Dear Abby - composition

Hi, guys. How's everything?

This post is especially directed to Gustavo and Ana who missed our last class.

As to practice modal verbs, we checked this website  http://www.uexpress.com/dearabby/?uc_full_date=20120912 which is about these people who write about their problems and ask this Dear Abby for some advice.

We discussed about the modal verbs that appear in the letters such as may, might, can, should... and their functions. We concluded that they are there to show possible solutions for the problem. For example, instead of saying
Making conversation is "a lot of trouble" to you, she says  Making conversation may seem like "a lot of trouble" to you.

So, in order to practice these modal verbs, each person wrote a problem on a piece of paper and then we exchanged the problems. We did not use real names so nobody knows who has the problem. After they got their classmate's problem, they have to be Dear Abby and write an advice for the problem trying to use modal verbs.

Because you did not come last class, I will write two problems here and you guys, Gustavo and Ana, will write the solution and bring it to me next class. You also have to post it here on the blog. It's a graded activity and it will be exposed on the walls of Number One.

Problem 1 - to Ana

I am 18 and I love going out. I work, I do well in school, I'm responsible and all that, but my parents insist on not permitting me to go out with my friends. They say I am responsible but my friends are not. I think it's not fair. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I have my money, so I pay my bills. I don't think they should decide who I go out with because it's my life!!! What should I do? I have talked to them a billion times and they don't listen to me. I don't want to be a rebel, but I want my freedom! HELP ME, dear Abby.
Sincerely and desperately, Miss Independent Wannabe.

Problem 2 - to Gustavo

Hi, dear Abby. I am 25 and lonely. I am a romantic, sincere, friendly, not very funny, but good-humored man. However I am single and I don't understand why. I start many relationships and they seem to be going really well and then, all of a sudden, they dump me with no apparent reason. They always say it is them not me, but I can't believe. There might be something wrong with me. I am no Johnny Depp and no Brad Pitt, actually I am more like  Jack Black. Short, kind of fat, but you know, I have a good heart! Help me, dear Abby. I don't want to be forever alone!

Yours, Mr. Lonely no more.

That's it, guys!!! Let's get down to work!

See you next class!

BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad

Hi guys! How are you doing? Marcos here. For some reason, I still didn't receive the blog invitation, so I'm using my brother's accout again. Anyways, today I want to recommend you an animated series that I really love;

BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, or just BECK, is a cartoon about music, relationships and school life. Right in the first episode, we are introduced to Yukio Tanaka, a boring highschool student, with nothing really special and only one friend, who is actually not that loyal.

But his life changes overnight when he 'rescues' a really weird dog named Beck and end up meeting Ryusuke, who is a musician and has a somewhat special charm that attracts people to him. Because of Ryusuke, Yukio starts playing the guitar, and eventually his life turns eventful, with deceptions, loves, and the most important - good music.

(Note that it's the English dub version. The Japanese original one is also in english, though.)

As expected from an music-themed animation, BECK's Soundtrack is flawless. The English dub one isn't as good as the original in my opinion, but it's still great. We have many different genres of music in it, and each one passes a different feeling from the others.

(PS: Note that this song is actually the one from the original version, the Japanese dub.)

I won't post more songs because I don't want to give you any spoilers.

So, if you are interested in the story, you can either DOWNLOAD THE FULL SERIES (ENGLISH DUB), READ THE COMICS ONLINE (though you can't listen to the songs) or even watch the live action movie (Which I don't have the link and still haven't watched it, so I can't tell you if it's good or not).

Even if you don't have time to watch it all, you can still just enjoy the songs from the original OST, DOWNLOAD LINK HERE.

Oh, and also, when some Japanese subtitles show up on the screen, it means the characters are talking in english in Japan (and when it doesn't, they're talking in japanese)

September 7

Hey people ^^

Today is September 7th, Independence Day of Brazil, like everybody knows. But I decided tell to you two cool curiosities about this date.

First, is about The Big Ben Tower Clock:

"The September 7, 1859, began operating the famous and gigantic four-faced clock "Big Ben" a tower of the Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Parliament today.
Since it began operating, has become the symbol of England and the English punctuality. At the same time, has been the representative of the city celebrations throughout the year, including New Year.

The clock, which was installed at the height of the Victorian era, was cast by George Mears in 1858. It measures nearly three feet in diameter and weighs approximately 13 tons and a half.

g

Now, the Google Search Site:

"The September 7, 1998, students at Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded a small company called Google Inc. in a garage.
Both university had created a researcher links used to help in your search for information. The first employee, Craig Silverstein, was responsible for developing the software.
In the first month of activity, had only 60 million pages indexed, and Google was only used by 10,000 people a day.
In just 10 years, has become one of the most powerful and innovative companies in the world with such ambitious projects like Google Maps or YouTube."

See ya ;]

Have you ever played DOOM?

Hi guys, today I'm bringing to you a classic game for PC released in 1993: DOOM. Here is a little fragment of the game's history:

"Doom (typeset as DOOM in official documents) is a 1993 first-person shooter video game by id Software. It is widely recognized for having popularized the first-person shooter genre, pioneering immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming, and support for customized additions and modifications via packaged files in a data archive known as "WADs". Its graphic and interactive violence, as well as its Satanic imagery, also made it the subject of considerable controversy. In Doom, players assume the role of a space marine, popularly known as "Doomguy", who must fight his way through a military base on Mars' moon, Phobos, and kill the demons from Hell."

More information here.

And here is the first Doom, released in 1993, for those who want to play this great classic:

K-pop

Well, people, last semester Debora told me that she was going to show a Korean song in the class, but since I guess she was just kidding I decided to post this song.. It's from Micky Yoochun, from TVXQ!
His pronounciation is very good isn't it??
Hope you like it ^^
